Blue Jellybean Drama Club
Our drama classes comprise a mixture of acting, dancing and singing, split into 3 half-hours slots, with a short break for a drink and snack about half-way through a 90-minute class. We believe these classes should be great fun as well as informative, and this is what we aim to achieve when teaching the children. Each term concludes with a performance, to which all friends and family are invited to attend.
We cater for 4 to 11-year-olds, which we split into groups of 4 to 7-year-olds, and 8 to
11-year-olds. Classes for the younger age group are taught on Tuesdays from 4pm to 5.30pm and on Saturdays from 11.30am to 1pm at Ockley Village Hall, Stane Street, Ockley. Classes for the older age group take place on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6pm.
Please contact us for term dates and to obtain an application form. The cost of the first term of classes is £110 with the first class offered free on a trial basis. Fees are payable in advance.
Acting
All children are natural actors, so through a series of specially selected games, improvisations and exercises we aim to
bring out and stimulate their innate ability. Some exercises will vary from week to week, while others will be repeated,
giving all children the chance to improve and their confidence the
time to develop and grow. We practice a combination
of team, small-group and individual exercises
which, to varying degrees, give them the opportunity to share ideas and use their imaginations. Part of
the lesson, from about half-way through the term, will involve preparing for the end-of-term show.
Singing
This is the part of the class in which the children are allow, and encouraged, to be as loud as they like! The singing session will usually begin with exercises to warm up the vocal chords, which may include tongue twisters and fairly familiar rhymes and songs. Thereafter the class will usually work on one song, performed together with associated actions, until we start rehearsing songs that feature in our show. Members of the older children’s group may also work on solo singing performances with our professional singing teacher, Julia Ludlow these will also usually be showcased at the end of term.
Dancing
Moving to music is almost without exception a part of the class that all children take to without inhibition. Once again, we will commence with exercises to warm up the various muscle groups before moving on
to a particular dance or movement sequence. We try to theme these with the seasons or festivals of the year, so we may do a bunny-hop dance with the younger children in the run-up to Easter, for example,
or a Hallow’een zombie boogie with the older ones in October. During the second half of any term
we will spend part of this class learning any dances that are part of our show.
This is obviously a summary only of what we do in each class, so please contact us if you have any questions.
Gruffalo on the green
These pictures were taken from an end of term performance as part of a
family-style picnic event in which members of Blue Jellybean opened with 3
short performances. Group members aged 4-7 presented 'The Meanest King'
followed by 'The
Gruffalo'. This was followed by 8-11 year olds who
performed a short comedy sketch followed by a rendition of Hard-Knock
Life
from the musical 'Annie'.
